وازلین نام برند تجاری آمریکایی است که در سال ۱۸۷۲ محصولی به نام ژل پترولیوم که بر پایه مواد نفتی تولید می شود را وارد بازار کرد. ژل پترولیوم به تنهایی به عنوان نرم کننده و مرطوب کننده و یا به عنوان مواد اولیه تولید محصولات بهداشتی مانند کرم مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد. پس از عرضه ژل پترولیوم مورد استقبال عموم مردم قرار گرفت و در بسیاری از کشورها از جمله ایران این ژل با نام برند تجاری عرضه کننده آن یعنی وازلین شناخته می شود.
